Your home comfort system is a set of parts that work together: a thermostat, an indoor air handler or furnace, an outdoor condenser or heat pump, refrigerant lines, ductwork and filtration. Here's what each type of service covers.
AC repair
Diagnosing and fixing central air conditioners: capacitors, contactors, fan motors, refrigerant leaks, frozen coils and drain problems.
Furnace & heating repair
Gas, propane and electric furnaces: igniters, flame sensors, inducer motors, pressure switches, limit switches and blower faults.
Heat pump service
Repair, maintenance and replacement for air-source heat pumps, including defrost problems and auxiliary heat.
AC installation & replacement
Load calculations, equipment selection, matched indoor coils, line sets, permits and commissioning.
HVAC maintenance
Spring cooling and fall heating tune-ups, maintenance plans, and what a proper inspection includes.
Ductless mini-splits
Single-zone and multi-zone ductless systems for additions, older homes and problem rooms.
Ductwork & indoor air quality
Duct sealing, filtration upgrades, humidifiers, dehumidifiers and ventilation.
Emergency HVAC
What counts as an emergency, what to do while you wait, and how after-hours pricing works.
Repair or replace?
A common rule of thumb is the "5,000 rule": multiply the age of the unit by the repair cost. If the result is more than $5,000, replacement is usually worth considering. A 12-year-old AC needing a $450 repair scores 5,400. It's a guide, not a law. Also weigh the refrigerant type (systems that use R-22 are now expensive to recharge), efficiency, comfort problems and how long you plan to stay in the home.
| System | Typical lifespan | Consider replacing when |
|---|---|---|
| Central AC | 12–17 years | Compressor failure, repeated leaks, R-22 refrigerant |
| Gas furnace | 15–25 years | Cracked heat exchanger, rising repair bills, uneven heat |
| Heat pump | 12–16 years | Compressor or reversing valve failure late in life |
| Ductless mini-split | 15–20 years | Board or compressor failure out of warranty |
