Why we built AC Heating Service
Heating and cooling is the largest energy use in most American homes, and HVAC equipment is one of the most expensive things a homeowner will ever buy. Yet most people meet their system for the first time when it breaks. That's when they're most uncomfortable and most likely to agree to whatever is offered.
AC Heating Service is a homeowner-first resource. We explain how air conditioners, furnaces and heat pumps actually work, what typically fails, and what reasonable repair and replacement prices look like across the country. The goal is simple: help you understand the problem before you pay to fix it.
What we believe
- Repair first, if it makes sense. A $250 capacitor shouldn't turn into a $9,000 system. We show you how to weigh repair against replacement.
- Right-size everything. Bigger isn't better. A properly sized system based on a load calculation (Manual J) is quieter, more comfortable and longer-lasting.
- Efficiency should pay you back. We explain SEER2, HSPF2 and AFUE so you can tell when a higher rating is worth it in your climate.
- Safety is not optional. Gas, refrigerant and high-voltage work belongs with licensed professionals, and we say so clearly.

How our guides are written
Every guide is written for a homeowner, not a technician. Where we give prices, they're broad national ranges based on typical equipment and labor costs, and we explain what moves them up or down. We update guides when federal efficiency standards, refrigerant rules or incentive programs change. The 2023 SEER2 ratings and the 2025 move to A2L refrigerants are two recent examples.
What we are not
We don't send technicians to your home and we don't sell equipment. This site is a national information brand. When you need work done, we'll help you find and evaluate a licensed local contractor. See how to choose an HVAC contractor.
